About Regular Guy Mountain Biking:

Regular Guy Mountain Biking is made up of a great group of folks that enjoy the sport of mountain biking. The crew has a mix of skill levels and we all are very down to earth. As a good friend in the group always says, “We start together and we end together”.

Other than planning out rides and trying to get more people involved in the sport, we create videos generally based on mountain biking. Some of these videos are product reviews and some are basic tips and tricks.

If there is anything you would like to learn more about regarding the sport please feel free to post some comments or contact us directly via one of our social media channels 🙂

About Griff:

I took up the sport of mountain biking in serious way in June of 2011 after attending the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Festival Grand Opening. I bought a 2011 Trek Gary Fisher X- Caliber 29’er and joined IMBA upon my return. I’ve been hooked ever since.

I actually first began mountain biking back in 1990 when we bought bikes for my three teenage boys. We rode for a few years but riding on hiking trails grew old after a while and we gave it up. I refocused on riding mototrials (motorcycle trials) which I’d done since 1975.  Once I discovered that mountain biking offered all the technical riding challenges of mototrials but with the addition of going fast on purpose-built flow trails and pumping/jumping in bike parks, I sold my trials motorcycle and haven’t looked back.

This blog site is about my mountain bike adventures, the people I’m meeting, issues related to the sport, and what I’m doing to try to improve my skills and help others do the same.

Other history

I served as a Minnesota Off Road Cyclists (MORC) board member for 2014 and stepped down when I co-founded Cannon River Offroad Cycling & Trails (CROCT) where I’m currently Vice Chair.

CROCT

In the summer of 2014, I began including blog posts related to my venture, Thick Skull Mountain Bike Skills. In January of 2016, I stopped work on that and began collaborating with Ryan Leech at his Performance Mountain Biking & Coaching website, RyanLeech.com where I’m an Ambassador and a marketing affiliate.

Ryan Leech

In the spring of 2016, I became an IMBA ICP-certified Level 2 instructor and a PMBI-certified Level 1 instructor.

IMBA ICP and PMBI certificates

In December of 2016, I created the Mountain Bike Skills Network (MTBSN), an online community of mountain bikers dedicated to helping one another develop our riding skills.

My wife Robbie and I live in Northfield, MN USA where we raised our four now-grown-and-gone kids. My Griff Wigley Facebook Profile has more about me than you want to know.

Phil is a mountain biking engineer living in Middle Tennessee. Long fascinated with things that were light, stiff, and expensive, he’s been involved with designing and racing racecars with Carnegie Mellon Racing as well as doing design work for SpaceX.

Phil has been riding, tuning, and thinking about mountain bikes for 10 years, on everything from budget hardtails to 6″ travel wunderbikes. Now he’s applying his skills and talents towards uncovering the coolest science and engineering behind our current bikes, as well as debunking marketing myths that have become prevalent in the cycling industry.

LW Coaching’s mission is to make Smart MTB Training Plans for YOU

We are Lynda Wallenfels and Dave Harris. We each won a 24 Hour Solo National Championships title in 2009. Both of us winning a National Championship title on the same day was really cool!

Many of our athletes have achieved lofty goals too. Read through some of our athlete testimonials and race reports.

We coach mountain bikers all over the US from our home base in Southern Utah. Using TrainingPeaks, WKO+ software, email, chat, Skype and phone we keep in touch with athletes like they are next door. Developing a personal relationship and close communication with each athlete is important to us.

Business Principles
Excellence in customer service, fast response times, reliable scheduling, innovative custom training plans. We serve athletes and celebrate in their accomplishments.
LW Coaching Philosophy
LW Coaching philosophy is a blend of scientific principles, athlete joy and schedule reality. Each of these facets is a crucial part of a successful training program and race performance.
Lynda’s Personal Philosophy
My goals are to be the best coach I can be. I have been coaching endurance athletes for 20 years. I am a certified USA Cycling Level l coach. I strongly believe in continuing my coaching education and holding sport specific certifications. I routinely attend conferences and clinics to further myself as a coach. I also race. Racing myself is one of the many ways I become familiar with specific race courses, race distances and learn in detail what it takes to be a fast racer. Mostly I race because I love racing.

Nathan started mountain biking when he was as the formative year of 13 while growing up in Huntington Beach, CA with $400 bike.  At 16 he started working at bike shops, including The Path, and kept that up all the way through college.

After earning an engineering degree, Nathan now works in Socal in the action sports industry.  He loves all forms of dirt riding but mostly focuses on Enduro and XC.  Both of which he competes at expert levels.

Twelve years and 35 pounds ago, Auk realized his sedentary lifestyle was on a destructive path.  Rolling into the Path Bike Shop, he bought his first mountain bike, an Ellsworth Joker (call it a 6-inch single pivot “freeride” bike) and started commuting to work (14 mile round trip).

Between bike commuting and enjoying all styles of bicycling, Auk averages about 5,000 miles a year on the bike.  Call it a love of the lifestyle, he truly, “Loves the Bike He Rides!”

He’s enjoyed many adventures with the co-hosts, Nathan and Tani:  shuttling (by car or by hike-a-biking) local DH trails, soul riding epic mountains, charging wilderness parks, and even dusting off the road bikes from time to time.

A civil engineer by day, you can find him developing spreadsheets to document bike geometries, talking shop over a good pint, and possibly sitting at his desk in sweaty bike gear before the work day starts.

Tani got his first taste of single track around 1980. He was 6, and he rode his Sting Ray alone on the meandering trails behind his house in the countryside of Gainesville, Florida.

Later, when the family moved to Maui, Tani rode BMX with other local pre-teens on the trails around Makawao. For the last 17 years, Tani has been deep in the bike shop life.

As the founder and operator of The Path Bike Shop, Tani has worked as a mechanic, a bike fitter, and helped a lot of customers. He has raced gravity and endurance events, gone free riding, on death marches, shuttling, park riding, trials riding, urban assault, a little dirt jumping, and bike commuting.

Though Tani enjoys competition, his deeper passion is the cycling lifestyle, the fun, experience and the expression of mountain biking.

The guys welcome all of your questions and encourage you to send them an email with the subject “Podcast Question” to [email protected].
