Tani got his first taste of single track around 1980. He was 6, and he rode his Sting Ray alone on the meandering trails behind his house in the countryside of Gainesville, Florida.
Later, when the family moved to Maui, Tani rode BMX with other local pre-teens on the trails around Makawao. For the last 17 years, Tani has been deep in the bike shop life.
As the founder and operator of The Path Bike Shop, Tani has worked as a mechanic, a bike fitter, and helped a lot of customers. He has raced gravity and endurance events, gone free riding, on death marches, shuttling, park riding, trials riding, urban assault, a little dirt jumping, and bike commuting.
Though Tani enjoys competition, his deeper passion is the cycling lifestyle, the fun, experience and the expression of mountain biking.
