What Is This About?
I’ve wanted to start sharing podcasts and specific podcast episodes that I come across for a long time. I receive a fair number of questions about what podcasts I listen to but I only end up sharing my experience with people in 1-on-1 conversations via emails and messages. It’s great to share, but I feel like I could share with many more who may get something from it.
Many other sites and shows do “book” lists, but that never really seemed to make sense to me for MBR. My world is audio and you’re following along a podcast network, so you obviously listen to a good bit of audio. So, it’s finally time since I started this whole keyboard pen to electronic paper thing. You can just keep checking back here to get your weekly dose. Or, just bookmark the Podcast Picks Category.
It’s no secret that I listen to a lot of podcasts. You may get the idea that all I listen to are cycling-related podcasts, but this really isn’t the case. I listen to a variety of outdoor shows, cooking related shows, and a random mix of others and I’m always seeking out interesting information and topics.
The goal of this regular podcast picks series is to:
1) Give you some shows and/or episodes that you maybe haven’t listen to or wouldn’t listen to without being prompted;
2) Spur some conversation among all of us regarding various topics, whether it’s cycling or not;
3) Not just share cycling related shows – it’ll include a variety of podcasts from various genres; and
4) Expand my own topics and boundaries.
Hopefully we can all learn something new or dig into something we’re interested in more. If you have any podcasts or podcast episodes that you think I or other MBR listeners would find interesting, please let us know and we can share. Just send an email titled “Podcast Picks” to [email protected].
Podcast Pick of The Week
I’m only starting with this podcast because I happened to be listening this morning as I worked. It’s not first because I consider it my favorite or anything like that – the order I post these has no real meaning. This one might seem like an oddball for you, coming from a mountain bike podcast website…
Show Title: The Meateater Podcast
Description: From The MeatEater: “The MeatEater Podcast with Steven Rinella (author and host of the biggest hunting show on television, MeatEater) covers hunting, fishing, wildlife, and wild foods with humor, irreverence, and plenty of unexpected viewpoints and surprising trivia. Recorded on the road from locations around the U.S., the podcast features a recurring cast of guests with their own areas of outdoor expertise.”
My Take: The MeatEater maybe isn’t for all of you. However, it’s an interesting podcast even for those who aren’t necessarily hunters. They discuss many aspects and topics from a respectful point of view and Steve Rinella (the host) is a really thoughtful and knowledgeable guy with a great take on the outdoors, hunting, and life. A particular episode I found interesting was Episode 25, in which they speak with a guy who use to do commercial halibut fishing in Alaska.
The normal podcast post definitely won’t be this long. I wanted this post to set the stage and give you a little who, what, when, etc.
